Having a child who is a fussy eater can be extremely stressful.  I know from experience! Sophies fussy eating has been a continuous battle that has regularly resulted in me sitting in tears of frustration and feeling like I am a failure as a mother. I know this isn’t the case as food has always been a sore subject in sophies life. She was born with a milk intolerance. It took us 6 months of a screaming sicky child and endless appointments to get a diagnosis. We then went on a journey of dairy free weaning! Being a first-time mum…

These Chocolate brownie cake bites are so simple to make and taste amazing.  With a cake like texture and the taste of a brownie, these bites are the ultimate treat. I really wanted to make brownies but didn’t have any chocolate in so decided to see how they turned out without it. All of the other ingredients are things that I always have in the cupboard so, I now have a recipe that I can throw together when necessary. Honestly, though, I’m not too sure if that’s a good thing when it comes to treats haha.  This batch will be used as after…

Would you like to get free or massively discounted groceries? Of course, you would! There are many apps now that offer cashback when you purchase certain items. I have been using these apps for around a year now and have had many free items and many highly discounted items. I have had soft drinks, cereal bars, fizzy drinks, alcoholic drinks, tea, coffee, freezer food, kids food, hair dye and much more.  Lately, I have been using Shopmium a lot. Shopmium is an app available on iPhone and Android. They add new products every week and on some items, you can…

Lasagne is something that used to be a real treat for us. The meat and sauces alone would easily cost over £6 then you have the cheese and the pasta sheets on top. Then adding sides the meal easily came to £8-9. After making my recipe for spaghetti bolognese which is pretty much the same as a layer of lasagne I decided to research how to make my own white sauce. Up until then, i had absolutely no idea what white sauce was made of. After searching on google I soon found out and couldn’t believe what I saw. (more…)

Who doesn’t love a pizza? I genuinely don’t know anyone who doesn’t like pizza? In the Smith household, we love a pizza and it’s a massive treat for us as it costs a fortune! We usually spend around £25 on pizzas and sides at dominoes and that’s with a 50% off code!! Yes, it tastes amazing but that is a huge amount that we can’t always afford. When we fancy a pizza night we like to make our own. It’s cheap, fun and it’s a great way to spend a little time together as a family. (more…)

Who doesn’t love macaroni cheese? No, not the one in a tin. A proper macaroni cheese? Well if you do here’s a fab recipe for you! And guess what? It can all be made in a single pan so hardly any washing up (unless your lazy like me and have a dishwasher) This is a perfect midweek recipe and will no doubt be appreciated by the kids. Using just 5 ingredients see how you can make a delicious Macaroni and cheese. Ingredients: Macaroni pasta 200G (you could use whatever is in the cupboard if you don’t have macaroni) Butter 2…

Hands up. Who makes a meal eats half. Then tips the rest into the bin? We’ve all done it we are all guilty of it and it’s something that we all need to stop! Leftover food can always be put to use. Around the world, there is thousands of pounds and tonnes of food thrown away each month. This is absolutely ridiculous considering we work hard for each and every penny we earn, use our valuable time to make it eat half then drop into a black bag and send it to landfill. There are so many things you can…

Spaghetti bolognese is a lovely family meal that can be altered to everyone’s taste. Making a bolognese sauce is so simple and it is so much healthier and tastier than what you buy in the supermarkets.   Have you ever actually looked at what goes into a jar of pasta sauce? I’ll tell you! Tomatoes, mixed herbs and A CRAP LOAD OF SUGAR!! The cost of this?   £2 a jar!  Mars (the company who own Uncle Ben’s and Dolmio) have released a statement saying that their sauces should only be consumed “occasionally” due to the sugar, fat and salt content!…

Here is my guide to making amazing home made mince pies. Mince pies are an essential in the Smith household throughout December. We absolutely love them! I’ll be honest here. I don’t make my mincemeat (no idea why they call it that considering it has no meat in it). Nope! I buy it in a jar. Truth is it’s just too expensive to buy all the ingredients to make a batch of 12 mince pies! I’ve found it costs around the same amount to buy pre made pastry and to make your own. The choice is entirely yours depending on time…
